The D'lateek Alphabet
Current work on "Srian DlaTeequ" (April
16, 2002 - updated Dec. 6 2002)

You'll notice:
9 squares
1 circle
9 lines (when constructed in a certain way and not including the circle)
The nine squares and one circle reflect a belief within the
Compound of the Gods' Nine that there exist 10 dieties, one of which,
Dlah, was thrown from Heaven down to Earth where he took the form
of a black mare. Dlah is represented by the circle. The
9 lines can be broken down and reformed to create different letters.
I'm still in the process of doing that. An interesting
thing to note is that each of the 10 lines have a numeric value (1
- 9) and therefore letters and words may have values too.
Generally speaking, the overall Square is constructed
left to right, top to bottom. The inside of the Square is constructed
left to right. Note that any horizontal line followed by a downward
vertical line is connected to said vertical line.
When creating letters, scale is generally irrelevant. This includes
any letters which might make use of the circle. Any letters
like this would be of ancient origin (a proto-alphabet you might say)
and would be regarded within the Compound of the Gods' Nine
to be evil.

The alphabet is written vertically, left to right.
The letter is usually written using lines 6, 7, or 9 first,
followed by 3, 4, or 8 then 1, 2, or 5 (see above)
However, there are exceptions where 1, 2, or 5 would be the
first line drawn, usually depending on the letter preceding it. I've
yet to isolate these exceptions.
You'll notice three letters label in srianalpabet.jpg
as "exceptions", specifically the letters [W], [DL], and
[L]. These letters are derived from the circle or "10th
line", therefore associated with the Dark Mare and evil. As
a countermeasure, [W] [DL] and [L] are constructed from lines 1, 2,
and 5, plus the little mark (being line 6, 4, or 9). [W], [DL]
and [L] only appear at the beginning of words, [W] instead of [G],
[DL] instead of [D], and [L] instead of [R].
At the moment, the letter [QU] would only be used when preceded by
[EE].
A note on transliteration: vowels are sometimes written
differently, such as [I] instead of [EE] or [AY] instead of [AE].
All of the transliteration flukes are noted in parentheses in
the table above. The only vowels that don't have alternative
transliterations are [AI], [OY], and [IH]. The reason I bring
this up is to make sure everybody understands what when I write something
like "dlatiqu", it should be read dlateequ and not dlatihk.
